Levin (Loebel), Hirschel (Hirschel Levin; Lyon, Hart)
(1721-1800)
   German rabbi and author. He was born in Galicia. He served as rabbi at the Great Synagogue in London from 1756 to 1763, then officiated in Halberstadt, Mannheim and Berlin. He opposed Naphtali Herz Wesseley's reforms in Jewish education, and was an advocate of Moses Mendelssohn's German translation of the Hebrew Bible, Biur.
